Matilda Jr. Musical Theatre Production Camp
August 3-14

Rehearse. Create. Perform a Fully Produced Musical.

Who this is for: Students entering grades 3-12 who are ready to audition, rehearse, learn stagecraft, and perform in a fully produced musical with costumes, lights, and sets.

The Matilda Jr. Musical Theatre Production Camp is different from a traditional class or workshop because everything students learn connects directly to the final production. Students do not just rehearse the show. They build the skills they need to perform it with confidence, focus, and understanding.

Students begin with a performance placement audition. After submitting audition materials, students may be invited to a callback so the creative team can place each student in a role that supports both the student’s abilities and the needs of the production.

During the program, students take classes that lead directly into rehearsal. They study music and vocal technique, learning how to warm up, project safely, sing with confidence, and use their voices without strain. Dance and movement classes prepare students for choreography used in the show. Acting and character work help students create a character from the moment they enter the stage and stay in character through the end of a scene.

Students also learn technical theatre skills, including microphone use, lighting, sound, set design, and stagecraft. They learn how to step into and out of light, how lighting helps tell the story, and how backstage elements help a show move forward.

The program concludes with two public performances of Matilda Jr., an abridged adaptation of the full-length stage musical.
